Over the past several years, some cities have passed laws guaranteeing fast food workers the right to fair scheduling practices and paid sick leave.

Workers in other cities have filed complaints against Chipotle Mexican Grill over its compliance with these laws. In 2016, Chipotle settled a Paid Sick Leave complaint with the City of San Francisco, paying out $95,000 to 1,198 workers. In 2019, New York City told Chipotle they owe $1 million in fines and restitution to workers for violations of the local Fair Workweek Law at five Brooklyn restaurants. Earlier this year, workers at ten Chipotle restaurants in Manhattan filed a complaint over violations of New York City’s paid sick leave law.
